Everyone loves secret and if it’s mixed with fear then it would be more interesting. Some know and some don’t about the secret societies. Just imagine some people conducting their meeting in a secret dark room and make a plan. We have often experienced these thrilling scenes in some books or movies but whenever we think about the existence of such societies it gives us goosebumps. There have been some genuine secret societies in the world and most of them are extremely dangerous and illegal to be a part of.
Read on to know about these societies
This is the longest running secret society which is still in existence. Four small groups of lodges joined together and created the Grand Masonic lodge in 1717. The basic, local organisational unit of Freemasonry is the Lodge. The members of these organisations are known as Freemasons or Masons. Initially, the membership levels were first and second degree but in the 1750s this was expanded to create the third degree and it caused a split in the group.
When a person reaches the third degree they are called Master Mason. The three degrees of Masonry are: 1: Entered Apprentice, this makes you a basic member of the group. 2: Fellow Craft, this is an intermediate degree in which you are meant to develop further knowledge of Masonry. 3: Master Mason, this degree is necessary for participating in most masonic activities.
Some rites list up to 33 degrees of membership. They use signs and handshakes to gain admission to their meetings. This protects the group from people finding out how to gain admission under false pretences. Masons also wear stylized clothing based upon the clothing worn by stone masons from the middle ages. The ‘G’ used in their signs stand for the Masonic gnosis and generation with Lucifer and God as the main enemy of Christendom. They take blood oaths to every degree and vow not to disclose the secrets of the Masons to anybody outside their group.
The Illuminati meaning the enlightened was founded on May 1, 1776, in Ingolstadt (upper Bavaria) by Jesuit taught Adam Weishaupt. It is now known as the Bavarian Illuminati. The society’s purpose was to oppose obscurantism, superstition, religious importance over public life and abuses of state power.
Many influential intellectuals and progressive politicians were the members of this society. Also, there were some known Freemasons in the membership but it was not considered to be endorsed by Masonry.
It is said that it conspired and controlled world affairs by masterminding events and planting agents in government and corporations to establish a New World Order. Conspiracy theories suggested that the Illuminati controlled and manipulated many world events. It planned many historical events such as the Battle of Waterloo, French Revolution and the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy.
Many people believe that the Illuminati still exist and operating the main actions of the governments of the world. It is said that they wish to create a One World Government based on humanist and atheist principles. Though there is no enough evidence that the secret group still exist.
The German Thule Society
Who have studied about the Thule society they said it was the real inspiration of Nazism. This was originally a “German study group” headed by Walter Nauhaus, a wounded World War I veteran from Berlin who had become the keeper of pedigrees for the Germanenorder. It was a secret society founded in 1911. Nauhaus in 1917 moved to Munich. His Thule society was to be a cover name for the Munich name of the Germanenorder.
A number of Nazi leaders were a part of this society. Even Adolf Hitler was associated with the society as a ‘visiting brother’. Thule society believed the theory – killing people and reducing the population. The members practiced sexual magic, black magic, racist chants and they often took part in ‘supernatural’ exhibitions where they allegedly invited demons and asked for their guidance.
Some believe it was a demonic ritual on sexually impotent Hitler that turned him into the sadistic killer. It had almost 250 followers in Munich and 1,500 in Bavaria. The meeting was often held in the luxury Hotel Vierjahreszeiten (Four Seasons Hotel) in Munich.
The Skull and Bones
The students of Yale University founded this secret society in 1832. William Huntington Russell and Alphonso Taft co-founded “the Order of the Skull and Bones”. It is said that the most founders of the CIA were the members of this group.
Skull and Bones selects new members among students every spring as part of Yale University’s “Tap Day”, and has done so since 1879. It selects fifteen men and women of the junior class to join the society. Skull and Bones “taps” those that it views as campus leaders and other notable figures for its membership.
This is infamous for hiding the deep dark secrets of sick practices which the members participate. Some claim weird sexual acts are performed at the ‘Order of Skull and Bones’. As a part of their initiation ceremony, new members are asked to lie naked in the coffins and tell others about their deepest and darkest sexual secrets.
The Assassins or The Hashshashin
The Assassins or the Hashshashin is believed to be one of the most fearful secret societies in the world. It is also known as Nizari, mysterious band of Muslim assassins that operated in the Middle East during the 13th century. The group was made up of Shia Muslims. They used guerrilla tactics including espionage, sabotage, and, most famously, political assassination against their targets.
Between 1090 and 1256 there were eight grand masters who ruled the group. They were known for their extreme discretion in minimizing civilian casualties. It is said enemy leaders would often wake in the morning to find a Hashshashin dagger lying on their pillow, along with a note saying “you are in our grip.” Soon they became well-known contract killers.
In 1256 and 1258, the Mongols destroyed them. At the time of their downfall, the library that contained all the records of Nizari was destroyed and whatever is known today is on the basis of myth.
Ku Klux Klan
The Ku Klux Klan or the Klan is the name of three distinct past and present right-wing movements in the United States. It advocates extremist reactions to topics like white supremacy, white nationalism, anti-immigration, Nordicism, anti-Catholicism, and anti-Semitism. The KKK used terrorism both physical assault and murder whoever opposed them.
Their first movement was held from 1865-1870s. The second and the most popular one was held from 1915-1944 and the third one started from 1945 and continuing till now. Many sources said that the Klan as a “subversive or terrorist organization”. All the three movements have called for the “purification” of American society.
Ashoka’s Nine Unknown Men
India’s only recorded secret society and perhaps the oldest. Some believe this was the most powerful secret society in the world. King Ashoka formed the secret society of 9 men.
The 9 unknown men were responsible for preserving the secret information that would be dangerous in the hands of the unknowledgeable. Each of them held a special book of knowledge including subjects like physiology, microbiology, propaganda, communication, gravitation, psychological warfare, cosmogony. Some of these books even held the secrets of anti-gravity and time travel. It is said that this secret society exists even today. These books are said to be passed on. But no one knows where the books are and whom to pass on.
Ashoka realised that if these books fall in the genuine hands who is incorruptible and thinks the welfare of mankind it could change our planet and if it falls into the wrong hands it could destroy the planet. That is why he kept it a secret.
Christian Rosenkreutz founded it in the early fifteenth century. It is claimed that they possessed esoteric wisdom handed down from ancient times. Rosicrucian teachings are a combination of occultism and other religious beliefs and practices.
The origins and teachings of the Rosicrucians are mentioned in three anonymously published books. The conspiracy theorists say they founded the Freemasons, the Illuminati, and the Invisible College. It is also said that they have been the guiding force behind every significant revolution in modern history.
The Bilderberg Group
The Bilderberg Group or Bilderberg Meeting or Bilderberg Club is a secret society comprising the elites. It is an annual private conference of 120-150 people of the European and North American political elite, experts from industry, finance, academia, and the media. The main purpose of this meeting is to create an aristocracy of purpose. The group is operated under a veil of mystery. It has become controversial for one main reason: no press is allowed in the conference and no significant details concerning the topics discussed are ever officially released to the public.
In 1954 the group was started and since then it has organised every year. At the time of meeting there is intense security, often feature armed guards, police, and even fighter jets patrolling the skies overhead. Ha created many conspiracy theories including the Great Depression and most of the world’s biggest terrorist activities.
The Order of the Golden Dawn
Dr. William Robert Woodman, William Wynn Westcott, and Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers created the order of the Golden Dawn. All these three people were Freemasons and members of the Societas Rosicruciana in Anglia. This group was devoted to the study and practice of the occult, metaphysics, and paranormal activities during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Golden Dawn’s belief system is taken from Christian mysticism, Hermeticism, the religion of Ancient Egypt, Qabalah, Freemasonry, Theosophy, Alchemy, Magic, and Renaissance writings. The fundamental documents of the order are known as the Cipher Documents. The documents are a series of 60 folios containing magic rituals. The basic structures of these rituals originated from Rosicrucianism.
The Knights Templar
The Knights Templar is a modern off-shoot of Masonry and it has no direct connection to the original Knight Templar, a religious military group recognised in 1139 and active from 1129 to 1312. The members of the Masonic Knights Templar do not claim that they have a connection with that group but only borrowing of ideas and symbols.
In spite of Freemasonry’s general disclaimer that no one Masonry claims a direct heritage to the medieval Knights Templar, certain degrees and orders are obviously patterned after the medieval Order. Despite the fraternity’s official disclaimers some Masons, non-Masons, and even anti-Masons insist that certain Masonic rites or degrees originally had direct Templar influence.
The medieval Knights Templar was prominent in Christian finance and grew rapidly in membership and power. Templar knights, in their distinctive white mantles with a red cross, were among the most skilled fighting units of the Crusades. Non-combatant members of the order managed a large economic infrastructure throughout Christendom, developing innovative financial techniques that were an early form of banking and building fortifications across Europe and the Holy Land.
