Three directors of a jewellery farm in Kolkata were arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly duping more than 300 investors of Rs 17 crore.
Anirban Sen, Aniruddha Sen and Arjun Sen the three accused were the directors of Senco Jewellery Palace Abhusan Private Limited. Kolkata Police arrested them from their relative’s house in New Alipore.
According to police, they found over 3,000 people invested in their two fake scheme ‘Dhanvridhi’ and ‘Swarnatrisha’ since 2010 . These two schemes promised to give cash or gold at the time of maturity.
On 4th September a Bijoygarh resident Krishnendu Bose filed a complaint against the three directors at Jadavpur police station. This complaint led to expose their fraud. Krishnendu Bose lodged a case against them and alleged they had cheated him in the name of profitable fund.
When police started their investigation they found that at least 300 people in Tollygunge area complaint against them regarding the same scheme. The company collected Rs 17 crore from these victims.
A senior police officer said, “We have received very few complaints compared with the actual number of victims. Investigations will reveal further the exact amount of money that they managed to collect from investors spread across the state.”
The officers had raided their three residence but could not find them. They went to the house of the accused in Rashbehari Avenue some days ago but the door was locked.
On Wednesday they got to know from some source that they were hiding in a relative’s house in New Alipore. A Police officer said that they reached the residence in midnight but nobody opened the door. Later the doorbell was disconnected from inside.
But the police officers noticed that someone is peeping through a window. At around 1 am they forced to open the door but the women of the house obstructed them to enter into the house. However, the women allowed them to search three floors of the house but prevented the officers to go the fourth floor. They claimed the children were sleeping there. In fact they threatened the police that they would call the human right commission as the police officers harassed them during an odd hour.
The officers managed to enter the fourth floor and they found three cupboard. When they opened the cupboards they found the accused were hiding inside it. The police immediately arrested them. An officer said, “All three were sitting quietly and waiting for the police to leave the place. They were immediately arrested.”
The three accused were arrested under section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
Joint Commissioner of police, Vishal Garg said that the investigation is going on and the three accused were sent to the 10 days’ police custody.
Aniruddha and Anirban’s sibling who is also a fourth accused is absconding.
Arjun Sen and his sons Anirban Sen who is also tollywood superstar Deb’s brother-in law (ex) and Aniruddha Sen jointly own their jewellery showroom in Rashbehari Avenue.
The Sen’s jewellery store Senco Jewellery Palace Abhusan and a costume jewellery business Zaywar Jewelmart Pvt. Ltd. Located next to their Senco store have been closed for several weeks since the investors protesting outside their store.
