Kashmir unrest continued for the 48th day and in that turbulent period pellet gun took a big part. That crowd control deadly device left thousands of people blinded in the valley. Finally there is a positive sign to end that lethal weapon. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said on Thursday that within a week an alternative to pellet guns will be proposed.

Singh declared there is no future for India without Kashmir. He called upon Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s policy of ‘Kashmiriyat, Insaniyat and Jamhooriyat’ (Kashmir’s pluralist ethos, humanity and democracy).

On the second day of his visit to Kashmir as part of Centre’s outreach to people of the valley Singh, with the J&K CM Mehbooba Mufti at the joint press conference, told reporters, “We want to shape future of India. If future of Kashmir is not shaped, future of India cannot be shaped too.”

He further said that an expert committee by the Home Minister will set up to seek an alternative to pellet guns and the Committee report will come within two-three days.

Singh asserted that in 2010 it was said that the pellet guns is a non-lethal weapon but now it is felt “there should be some alternative to this”.

He also signified the government’s eagerness to talk with the separatists. When it was asked to him if the government would want to talk to the separatist Hurriyat leaders he assured that the government will talk to anyone “within the scope of Kashmiriyat, Jamooriyat and Insaniyat.”

At the press meet Singh also said that an all party delegation would visit Kashmir and an officer will be assigned to deal with the problems of Kashmiris outside the state. He added the Centre will set up a nodal agency in case of any problem Kashmiris can contact it. “I have appealed to people to treat Kashmiris like their brethren and instill confidence among Kashmiri students.”

Ms. Mufti said that she support for a peaceful resolution of the problem; 95% of population stood for peaceful resolution while only 5% were creating violence and they will be treat as per the law. She stated that some elements in the valley used children as their shield. “They push them into the fire by sending them to attack security establishments”.
