militant attack

Kashmir’s soil shaken up at last night when the terrorists attacked Army and Border Security Force (BSF) camps. They killed one jawan and another army man was in critical condition.

The terrorists were four in the number and the gun battle continued for two hours. After that, they fled away. The security forces started search for them and the Baramulla highway which leads to Handwara has been cordoned off.

The two militants were also killed during the heavy firing, though the report was unconfirmed. The other two managed to run away from the spot.

At about 10:30 pm on Sunday they attacked the two army camps in two groups; Army’s 46 Rashtriya Rifles camp and the adjoining BSF camp, Baramulla. This leading to a heavy gun battle.

After the two hours gun battle, the Army said that the situation was under control. The terrorists somehow managed to enter the boundary of the BSF camp. The Army and the BSF started firing when they entered into the border.

It was suspected that the terrorists entered India across the Jhelum river.

The martyred and the injured soldiers were from the 40th battalion of the BSF. They were identified as Constable Nitin who was martyred and the injured named Constable Pulwinder.

Colonel Rajesh Kalia, a representative for the Srinagar based XV corps said that the terrorists targeted the army camp at Jabanzpora, Baramulla.

Last week on September 29, the Indian Army conducted surgical strikes on the terror launch pad across the LoC in Pakistan. After that an emergency security alert was issued in Jammu and Kashmir. In spite of that high alert, the terrorists infiltrated and attacked the army camp.

The BSF DG KK Sharma briefed the whole incident to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and the National Security adviser.

Before this, the militants have never succeeded to attack the 46 R R Camp in Kashmir’s 27 years of insurgency.
