A Hizbul militant was killed and two army personnel were injured after a massive gun battle broke out in south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Monday.
According to police, the firing started at around 2 am at Wangam Shopian. After the police got information about the militant hideout, last night the joint team of J&K police and 62 Rashtriya Rifles launched an operation.
A police official stated, “An encounter broke out between security forces and militants at Wangam in Shopian after the security forces launched a search operation following specific intelligence inputs.”
The militant identified as Sadam Hussain Mir and lived in Chatripora Shopian. Police recovered 119 AK 47 rounds, five AK 47 magazines, one assault rifle and one hand grenade.
The two injured soldiers were immediately moved and their conditions are stable now.
Yesterday, an army personnel was killed in the ceasefire in Poonch district. Pakistani rangers started their firing after an Indian jawan was killed and a civilian was injured at the RS Pura sector.
Indian Army’s northern command posted the incident on Twitter, “CFV in Poonch Sector. Being strongly retaliated. Heavy damage to Pak posts. Own one soldier fatal, two injured (sic).”
During the nearly four months long protest in the valley following the death of Hizbul militant Burhan Wani, at least 43 people have joined terrorist groups.
