Defence Research and Development Organization’s (DRDO) DG (Missiles n Strategic Systems) and Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister Dr. G. Satheesh Reddy was presented the first IEI-IEEE Award on Wednesday for engineering excellence 2015.
The award, which gave to him is in acknowledgment of his significant national contributions towards missiles and aerospace technologies, was presented by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineers, during the Award ceremony on August 24, 2016 as a part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the IEEE Asia-Pacific Region held at Hotel Lalit Ashok, Bengaluru. In the presence of IEEE USA President, Dr Barry L. Shoop, A.S. Kiran Kumar, Chairman ISRO gave the award to Dr. Satheesh.
His revolutionary work in Navigation and Avionics technologies has been essential in the success of several defence projects making India self dependent in many important areas.
Dr. Reddy is a famous aerospace and navigation scientist. He directed the indigenous development of denied sensor and avionics technologies related to Indian missile navigation and other programmers, as director of DRDO’s Research Center Imarat. He is also credited with development of the MRSAM, or Medium Range Surface-to-Air Weapon System, and the country’s first guided bomb, among others.
Satheesh received the Homi J. Bhabha Memorial Award for 2013–14 of the Indian Science Congress Association. He was the first Indian receiver of the Silver Medal of the Royal Aeronautical Society in 2015. He was the first recipient of National Systems Gold Medal, Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya Award of the Institution of Engineers (India), IETE B.V. Baliga Memorial Award for his contribution towards design, planning, production, development and timely delivery of critical avionics systems and diversified navigation technologies and Systems Society of India Vikram Award for realization of Systems of National importance.
