A girl in Khajuraho town of Madhya Pradesh is suffering from a rare medical condition. She is now battling for her life. She is suffering from a rare congenital condition called Ectopia Cordis that means the girl’s heart is beating outside the body.
The medical experts said this rare condition happens in 8 children per 10 lakh berths. Chhatarpur district hospitals civil surgeon Dr. RS Tripathi told the PTI, “The girl was born on April 5 at Khajuraho Health Centre in the district. She has a rare congenital medical condition called Ectopia Cordis (heart abnormally located either outside of the thorax).”
The girl’s father Arvind Patel is a security guard and he works at a world heritage site in Khajuraho. The girl was born with that rare medical condition and after her birth, the Khajuraho Health Centre referred to take the child to Chhatarpur district hospital. When her father took her to the Chhatarpur hospital, they referred him to admit the girl to Gwalior. The Gwalior doctors referred her to AIIMS.
The doctors informed Patel that the medical expense for the treatment would be around Rs 25 to 30 lakhs. As money is a huge problem for a security guard, he was not able to bear the cost of the treatment. So he met Chhatarpur collector Ramesh Bhandari for help. The collector assured Patel to give every help possible.
The collector shifted the girl to AIIMS. He said, “The baby’s treatment would be carried out with financial assistance under the state governments Mukhyamantri Bal Hriday Upchar Yojana (CMs Child Heart Treatment Scheme).”
Dr. Tripathi while speaking about the girl’s condition said that during the last one decade this was the second case of Ectopia Cordis in the district. “The occurrence of this rare medical condition is eight per 10 lakh births. The first such case was reported in the district about five years back.”
He said Ectopia Cordis is a congenital malformation in which the heart is abnormally located either partially or outside the thorax. It results from a failure of proper maturation of body wall formation during embryonic development.
In March, a similar case was reported in Multan, Pakistan where a girl named Loraib Zahid was born with her heart beating outside her chest.
