Israel President Reuven Rivlin arrived in New Delhi on Monday for an eight-day visit, November 14-21 to India. He will meet with President Pranab Mukherjee and both visit Chandigarh on Sunday to attend Agro Tech fair to be organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
President Mukherjee will inaugurate the fair and President Rivlin will be the guest of honour. The twelve countries which will participate in the fair: the US, the UK, Canada, Spain, Israel, China, Germany, Turkey, Italy, South Africa, Netherlands and Denmark.
The President accompanied by a large delegation of businessmen, defence supervisors and academics. He will discuss on the areas of cooperation in water and agriculture. President Rivlin confirmed Israel has plans for joint ventures and technology transfer in developing weapon systems. Israel is becoming the first country to implement Modi’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The Israel President will hold talks with Narendra Modi on Tuesday. The Israel President’s visit happened after 20 years. In 1997, January the last Israel President to visit India was Ezer Weizman.
Modi will also prepare his much-awaited travel to Tel Aviv. When he was asked about Modi’s visit to Israel, President Rivlin said PM Modi’s visit will be a very important trip. The two countries didn’t agree on many issues, especially on Israel-Palestine conflict. President Rivlin explained, “Friends may not always see eye to eye on everything, and as friends we can agree to disagree with respect and understanding.”
In terms of trade between two countries, India is the largest buyer of military hardware. Israel supplying missiles, various weapon system and unmanned vehicles over the last few years.
President Rivlin is visiting India on the invitation of President Mukherjee. He is expected to meet business leaders of both India an Israel.
He will travel to Agra, Chandigarh and Karnal. On the last day, he will visit Mumbai to pay tributes to 26/11 victims. In Agra, he will pay a visit to the adjoined Israeli water treatment called “Aqwise”. In Chandigarh, he with President Mukherjee will inaugurate Agro Tech fair. He will travel to Karnel to visit the Centre of Excellence in Agriculture set up with Israeli assistance.
