At least 17 people were killed and many injured when a bus fell into a gorge near Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh.
The private bus carrying more than 40 people and it was on its way to Jaora from Ratlam. The accident occurred on the four-lane road at 12 Patthar Khadan at around 10:30 am. One of the tyres of the ill-fated bus burst and the driver lost his control and the bus fell into a water filled stone mine.
Police told the open mine was filled with rain water. So the entire bus was drowned and the passengers got very little time to escape.
According to Additional Superintend of Police Dr Prashant Choube, 13 people were rescued from the bus and taken to nearby hospitals.
The eyewitnesses said that the bus was moving on a high speed and overturned and then fell down into the pit.
According to The Financial Express, immediately after the accident, locals reached at the spot and helped the injured. The bus belonged to a private service, Mamata Bus Service.
Local residents and authorities trying to pull out the bus and heavy machines were deployed to recover it. Senior officials including SP, Collector and others reached the spot to manage the rescue operation.
