MLA John Kumar on Thursday resigned from his post to make way for Chief Minister V Narayanasamy to enter the Puducherry assembly. In upcoming by-election Narayanasamy will be contesting.
John Kumar handed over his resignation to V Vaithilingam, Speaker of Territorial Assembly. V Vaithilingam said the resignation of the MLA will be processed after they inform the government. Only Election Commission will declare the vacancy.
With the resignation the strength of the Congress in the 30 member assembly reduced to 14 members.
John Kumar stated, “Based on the direction given by the President of AICC Sonia Gandhi and advice by Vice President Rahul Gandhi, I have tendered my resignation for Chief Minister V Narayanasamy.”
Within six months Narayanasamy had to become a member of the Territorial Assembly to contest the election. Already he has spent 100 days as a Chief minister.
In May 28, Narayanasamy was elected as a leader of the Congress Legislature Party unanimously and on June 6 he vowed as CM of the Union Territory.
John Kumar is a parliamentary secretary to the CM Narayanasamy. He beat AIADMK candidate Om Sakthi Sekhar by a margin of about 12,000 votes and elected from Nellithoppe constituency.
