The Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte has warned that he can be 50 times more brutal than Muslim terrorists. He said he can even eat them if the troops captured them alive.

The ruthless president has frequently threatened drug suspects with death. But on Sunday, he stepped up another level when in a speech during the opening of a national sports tournament, he said he could eat the terrorists who have staged beheadings and other dreadful attacks.

He ordered the troops to kill fleeing Muslim separatists behind a foiled attack in the central resort province of Bohol and not bring them to him alive. Duterte called the terrorists “animals”.

He threatened, “If you want me to be an animal, I’m also used to that. We’re just the same. I can dish out, go down what you can 50 times over.”

The president said if someone presented him a terrorist when he is in a foul mood he will eat his liver. “Give me salt and vinegar and I’ll eat his liver.”

The crowd in front of him took his statement as a joke and they broke into laughter. But Duterete was quite serious. “It’s true, if you make me angry.”

The longtime city mayor Rodrigo Duterte won the presidency last year in May. He is better known for his deadly actions on drug suspects. After won the presidency, he vowed to fight against drugs, corruption and terrorism.

Under his anti-drug crackdown, thousands have been killed and this situation has alarmed the Western governments and human rights groups.

Duterte warned during his rule if terrorism threats go out of control then he may place the southern Philippines under martial rule.

Recently, he offered a reward for information about Abu Sayyaf and other militants behind a foiled attack in the central province of Bohol. In the attack, eight militants, three soldiers, a policeman and two villagers have killed in the clashes in Bohol.
