On Sunday an encounter took place in Kashmir’s Poonch district. Firing resumed on Monday morning. In the encounter three militants and one police man were killed.
Yesterday two groups of militants attacked Poonch town. One of the groups took hostage of an elderly couple inside a private residential building and the other group firing at the security forces and the police force from inside the under construction mini secretariat building which is opposite to the Poonch district police chief’s office.
The firing began at around 7:30 am and continued during the whole day.
According to reports, some militants still hiding inside the building as they have intermittently continued their firing since the early morning on Monday. Sources said drones are being used to locate them.
During the day long encounters by the police and security forces in the border township three militants were killed. Also a police constable was killed and five others including two army men, two police men and a civilian were wounded.
Inspector General of Police Johny William who is in charge of DIG Rajouri-Poonch zone said that though the firing has been stopped and three militants killed, the operation has not been stopped yet. On Sunday night police had cleared the private building next to the Army Brigade Headquarters. But the search of the mini secretariat building was incomplete as it is suspected that some militants are still hiding there.
