Actor Sushant Singh Rajput dropped his surname on social media platform Twitter as a mark of protest against activists of Rajput organization Shree Rajput Karni Sena, who misbehaved with the crew of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming film Padmavati and vandalised the set.

The 31-year-old actor said he decided to drop his surname “for a day” to send across the message that he does not represent people from the community who employed violence as a means to show their disapproval.

The MS Dhoni biopic star took his surname ‘Rajput’ off his Twitter profile, expressing solidarity with the director. Sushant tweeted the same saying, “We would suffer till the time we’re obsessed with our surnames. If you’re that courageous, give us your first name to acknowledge. #padmavati.”

When asked what point he was trying to make by dropping his surname after the incident, Sushant told PTI, “I did it to show that the unfortunate action is not what everyone with that surname endorses. They do not represent the entire Rajputs. There are ways to express your ideas, but violence is never an answer, and that too just on a mere speculation.”

Bhansali on Friday roughed up by members of Karni Sena, who stopped the shooting of his film “Padmavati” at Jaigarh fort by vandalising the set, alleging distortion of facts in the movie.

While the film fraternity has strongly condemned the act, Sushant had his own way to express his sentiment.

Sushant had to face trolling too as someone wrote, “@itsSSR U dont hv the b*lls to stand for ur history..Illiterates like u will dilute our heritage & mk our genr forget our glorious history.”

On Sunday, he tweeted, “There is no religion or cast bigger than humanity and Love & compassion makes us human. Any other division is done for selfish gains.”

However, the actor clarified that he won’t his name for good and it was only his way to register protest. “I am not changing my name, that was a way to express that I dont endorse the view of a particular group which claims to be the representative of entire Rajputs and probably India.”

He even replied to this comment, “So why don’t you change your name too, if you don’t follow any religion then why a hindu name sushant?? remove that too.”

He added.
