A 23 year old man and an MP aid has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman inside Britain’s House of Parliament. The incident occurred in the early hours of last Friday.
The man named Sam Armstrong was an aid of Tory MP Craig Mackinlay. According to police, the man had been released on bail until January as investigators probed the matter. On the day of the incident, after the victim raised the alarm the officers were called to Westminster.
A representative of South Thanet MP stated that Mr Mackinlay was aware about the allegation against a member of his staff on that same day. “Following a request made by the police and parliamentary services he granted full access to his Westminster office. Mr Mackinlay is currently awaiting further information from the police.”
This is not the first time Armstrong was accused, earlier this year an allegation was made that he attempted to film Robert Halfon, a senior member who was having an affair.
A spokesperson for the House of Commons said, “We are aware of an incident on the parliamentary estate, which is being investigated by the Metropolitan police service. Parliament is working closely with the police on their investigation and we cannot comment further while this is ongoing.”
