Bihar Congress vice-president Brajesh Kumar alias Brajesh Pandey booked in a case of sexual exploitation of a minor girl in Patna. He has resigned from his post on Tuesday.
The girl is the daughter of a former Congress state minister.
IGP Anil Kishore Yadav told PTI that he has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act on the basis of a note from the women’s cell of the state’s Criminal Investigation Department. The note was submitted by DSP Mamta Kalyani.
His name has been included in the list along with the main accused Nikhil Priyadarshi. The victim claimed that Nikhil deceived her in the name of marriage and blackmailed her with his brother, Pandey and another co-accused.
Nikhil and the other co-accused were absconding after a local court rejected their anticipatory bail. On Tuesday, the girl appeared on a local TV channel and told the incident.
She claimed Pandey introduced himself as a big leader and threatened her with dreadful consequences. She also alleged he was involved in a sex racket.
After the matter came to light, Pandey gave his resignation. “I do not want that the party suffers in any manner because of me”. He faxed the letter to the state party president Ashok Choudhary.
The state president who is now campaigning for Uttar Pradesh Assembly Election accepted his resignation.
However, he pleaded innocence in his resignation letter. He said, “The girl has been accusing Nikhil Priyadarshi and his family but I do not know how come she is now naming me. I am deliberately victimised on behalf of somebody.”
BJP demanded a judicial probe on the matter and an immediate arrest of all accused. The deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav said that the police is doing their job.
