‘Bike-taxis have come in Rajarhat’s Newtown. The fare is Rs.20 per 2 kilometers. The fare will increase by 5 per kilometer.
On Thursday, Transport Minister Subhendu Adhikary inaugurated the bike taxi in front of the tent of the Department of Transport in Kolkata Maidan. Now the number of running bike taxis are 17, but it will be 50 in coming days. For female passengers, women driver will be trained.
Transport Minister has said that it will now run as a pilot project. Bike-taxi will be brought in the tourist spots of the state and even in the districts.
This bike-taxi invention was the plan of HIDKO chairman Debashis Sen. Except abroad, bike-taxi was only in Goa and Gurgaon.
Private organization “the word of the Global Commercial Motor Private Limited has come up with the bike-taxi. mayor of Bidhannagar Sabyasachi Dutta, MLA Sujit Basu, West Bengal Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation Chairman Dinesh Bajaj, Chairman of HIDKO Debasish Sen, transport secretary Alapan Banerjee and officials were present in the occasion. The bike-taxis can be booked via app.
The call centre numbers has been written near headlight of each bike, 9836215551. The company’s co-founder and director Ferdous Colin said bike riders have been trained well. The salary of the driver is Rs.9000. The company has given the numbers of the drivers to every Newtown police station. In the future, they are thinking of installing ‘panic button’ and running the bike-taxis on battery.
