Russian scientists have discovered Adolf Hitler’s secret Nazi military base after seven decades after it was abandoned. ‘Schatzgraber’ or ‘Treasure Hunter’ as it was called, was a direct order from the German dictator, was constructed in 1942 located 1,000 kilometers from the North Pole.

The base was built just after a year Hitler invaded Russia. The location of the site is on Alexandra Land in the Arctic Circle, a remote island was abandoned in the year 1944 when the Nazis stationed at the base ate infected polar bear meat that led to an outbreak of the disease.

Researchers exploring the isolated island, which is now a Russian Territory, stumbled upon over 500 relics, including the ruins of bunkers, discarded petrol canisters and even paper documents – preserved by the island’s freezing climate.

The scientists that discovered the base found bullets, scraps of tents, personal items most of which were marked with the Nazi symbol of the Swastika.
