Husband threatens to divorce his wife by ‘tin talaq’ after she gave birth to a daughter. The incident took place in UP’s Samval. She complained the torture to police.
She has said, “We get married 4 years ago. After marriage, they used to torture me. Everyone beat me for dowry. They even tried to kill me. Unable to tolerate torture, I come back to my parents after 8 months of marriage. But after giving birth of a baby girl, the turmoil increases. Nobody wanted to accept me and my daughter. Now my husband wants to marry again. He threatened me of ‘tin talaq’. I have been forced to go to court. I’m seeking the help of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath.”
Since the BJP came to power in 2014, they have been opposed to the ‘tin talaq’ custom of Muslims. Last Sunday, in the program “Maan Ki Baat”, Modi himself referred to this system as anti-social. If such injustice to the Muslim women cannot be stopped then improvement of the society is not possible. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also opposes this custom. However, the Muslim Personal Law Board has already announced that it will not tolerate the government intervention in Shariah law.
