NIA: Zakir Naik’s NGO Gave Rs. 80,000 Scholarship To IS Sympathizer

National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Tuesday said Zakir Naik’s NGO Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) and IS has links. Last year, IRF has provided Rs. 80,000 scholarship to IS sympathizer Abu Anas.

In October 2015, Abu Anas (24), a resident of Tonk in Rajasthan received the scholarship. The money was transferred at the time he was planning to go to Syria to join the IS. He had applied for the scholarship and go an interview call in Mumbai.

An NIA official told IANS, “Anas had planned to go to Syria to fight along with IS in the same period but he was arrested by the NIA in January this year and later chargesheeted.”

This highlighting that the IS and IRF had an alleged link between them. It was suspected that IRF financially assisted him by disguising it as a scholarship. Anas was in regular links with IRF office bearers and the money was transferred to his ICICI Bank account.

Abu Anas was a former information security analyst with TWG International at Abids at Hyderabad.

Yesterday, NIA has carried out a fresh raid at Naik’s another property. NIA lodged a complaint against Naik and IRF. Since Saturday, the anti-terror agency has raided 21 places of Naik, his family members, office bearers and others who is in a post of his NGO and television channel.

NIA recovered DVDs and video tapes of Naik’s public speeches, financial transactions and foreign and domestic funding of IRF and associated companies, documents related to property and investment.

The investigation revealed that the IRF has close connections with some private organization companies including Longlast Constructions Private Limited, Majestic Perfumes Private Limited, Harmony Media Private Limited, Right Property Solutions Private Limited and Alpha Lubricants Private Limited.

An official said, “Documents pertaining to inflow and outflow of foreign and domestic funding, which have been recovered during search operations, are being scrutinized.”

Currently, Naik is out of the country. Even he did not attend his father Abdul K Naik’s funeral.

The controversial televangelist and IRF came under scanner after Dhaka café attack for spreading or promoting communal disharmony, alleged misdeeds and inspiring terror activities.
