Heavy Pakistani mortar shelling along the border from Suchetgarh sector in RS Pura to Pargwal in Akhnoor sector on Monday killed a BSF head constable and a six year old boy. Two other BSF men along with civilians including women and children were also injured.
The victims were head constable Sushil Kumar of Pahova in Kurukshetra district of Haryana and the minor identified as Vicky of Bihar. The head constable died for the shelling in RS Pura but the boy was suffered splinter injuries at Lalyal in Kanachak sector. His mother Buniya Devi was also injured. According to sources they had come in that area from Bihar to work as agricultural labourers.
The other injured including constable Ayyapa Bapu and Assistant Sub Inspector RD Puri. The civilians who got affected were Krishna Devi of Treva, Parkasho Devi of Gajanso Sunil of Garkhal and Girdhari Lal of Sai.
Sources said that the mortal shelling was coming across the border in a pause of two-three hours. The power of the shelling were so intense that it could be heard from the areas situated 20kms away from the international border.
On 21st October, a sniper hit BSF constable Gurnam Singh, BSF claimed in revenge they killed one terrorist and seven Pakistani Rangers. But Pakistan denied any casualties.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh paid his homage to the victims. He is now in Bahrain on a three day tour. Director General of BSF K K Sharma briefed him about the whole situation over phone. He tweeted, “I salute the bravery and sacrifice of BSF jawan Shri Sushil Kumar who was martyred in RS Pura sector of Jammu region last night. Spoke to DG BSF who apprised me of the situation in border areas of Jammu region. The BSF is capable of giving befitting reply.”
