
The Special Task Force arrested 6 Jamaat ul Mujahideen members, that is Bangladesh based terrorist group. On Saturday, 5 of them were arrested, while the other was arrested on Monday morning.
The arrests were made in Assam and West Bengal. One suspect was arrested from Cooch Behar district of Bengal, two were arrested from Bangaon in North 24-Pargana, two from, Bashirhaat and one person was nabbed from Assam. The five of the arrested are wanted in the Burdwan Blast case. Three of the arrested are Bangladeshi nationals.
Vishal Garg, Joint Commissioner of Kolkata Police (STF) said that the men were planning attacks in the Northeastern States or in South India. Police seized detonators, 2 kgs of ‘white’ powder, sd card, laptop and mobile phones from the arrested men. Mr. Garg said “Prima facie, it seems that the white powder is some kind of explosive. We will send it for forensic examination.”
The arrested were identifies as Zaibrul Islam, Md Rubel, Anwar Hussain- all Bangladeshi nationals, Abul Kala, Shahudul Islam and Moulana Yusuf.
Anwar Hussain is the head of the JMB unit in Bengladesh, according to the police. Anwar had a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head announced by National Investigation Agency (NIA). Moulana Yusuf who hails from Burdwan in Bengal, is Hussain’s deputy and imparted training at a local madrasa.
Shahudul Islam is from Barpeta, Assam. He was wanted by police and NIA. Abul Kalam, who is an IED and a trainer, is from Barpeta, Assam. He carried a reward of Rs three lakh on his head.
Md Rubel is from Jamalpur in Bangladesh. He is an IED expert and carried Rs one lakh reward. Another Bangladeshi national, Zabirul Islam was wanted by NIA in terror related cases.
