Mr. Dependable Rahul Dravid is all praised by the people as he declined to accept the honorary doctorate degree awarded by the Bangalore University during its 52nd convocation ceremony on Friday. He said he would rather earn it “by accomplishing some form of academic research in the field of sports rather than receiving an honorary degree.”
His decision only increased his reputation…many told he is one of the greatest human beings they have ever seen. A user wrote, “Imagine being so big at heart that you deny a degree because you want to earn it! Rahul Dravid is a man among men.”
However, the university vice-chancellor Thimme Gowda said Dravid was a graduate of their university and “conveyed this message with all humility.”
“We’ve learnt that he’s reluctant to accept the award because he’d rather earn it. The honorary doctorate, however, is not gratis. It is a recognition we’re awarding him for his contribution to sports.”
He added, “We’ve been trying to get in touch with him, but he’s out of town currently. Once he’s back, we’ll try to convince him about it.”
The Bangalore University had suggested three names to Governor and the chancellor of the university Vajubhai Vala for conferring the honorary degree. Vala had approved only Dravid’s name.
But this is not the first time he refused an honorary degree. Earlier, he refused a doctorate from the Gulbarga University.

I don't call myself an atheist because I worship Rahul Dravid as the purest embodiment of all that's good in the human race. #ModernDaySaint https://t.co/HKtU2xDgOA
