Having glided down the rails as a historian witness, Kolkata Tram has itself been turned into an immemorial heritage for which the whole Kolkatans are proud of. But what if one day the word ‘tram’ has been deleted from the 143 year old name? Yes, You’ve got me right! Our dearest ‘didi’ CM Mamata Banerjee on 16th September registered for changing the name of Calcutta Tramways Corporation (CTC) to West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC). A 143 years old traditional name and the logo of CTC will be changed.
If she has decided to do something then it would be done. After Friday, the initiative of changing the name has started already with renaming the CTC official website as WBTC.
Majority of the tram routes has been closed, there are a few trams in Kolkata now and it is the only city in Asia with trams still running. Kolkata tram has already entered the grave and with the change of the name it will be buried. So we have prepared this video to give our homage to the 143 year old heritage of Kolkata.
May be 10 or 12 years later Calcutta tram will become a chapter in history books.
